The USJ Express Pass buys
entry, not speed.
The Express Pass's real 2026 value is guaranteed area entry into Super Nintendo World and Donkey Kong Country — not ride-skipping. The free timed-entry tickets everyone else competes for are issued first come, first served in the app once you're inside the park, and on busy dates the good slots go fast. An Express variant with the area guarantee — or a travel-agency package with an advance-booked area ticket — is the only way to have Nintendo entry settled before you arrive. If you're visiting on a weekend, holiday or school-break date and Nintendo is why you came, pay from ¥14,800 ($94) for Express 4 ~Trolley & Jurassic Park~, which guarantees the area and covers Mine Cart Madness, and stop worrying. If you're there on a quiet weekday in late January–early March or November, the free route is realistic, Single Rider cuts ride queues for free, and the pass — which can cost more than admission itself — is money you should spend on dinner in Tenma.
What you're actually buying in 2026
The reframeEvery guide sells the Express Pass as a queue-jumper. Experienced USJ visitors say that's the wrong frame.
USJ sells Express in five tiers — Express 4, 5, 7, 8 and Premium, named for how many attractions they cover — and each tier comes in several named variants. The attribute that separates them is not the ride count but whether the variant includes guaranteed timed entry into Super Nintendo World, which covers Donkey Kong Country too, since it sits inside the same area. The free timed tickets are first come, first served once you're inside and go fast on busy dates, so that guarantee — not the shorter ride lines — is the product.
The community dissent is worth hearing before you pay: seasoned visitors point out the pass is "only really useful for two rides" — the Nintendo pair — and that decent planning covers those free. They have a point on quiet days: trip reports suggest posted waits often overstate the real ones, and USJ itself says that on some days the area admits guests with no timed ticket at all.
So the question isn't 'is the Express Pass worth it' — it's 'what does a guaranteed Mario morning cost on my specific date, and is the free route realistic'. Your date decides, which is exactly why the tiers below are 'from' prices: Express prices vary by date and stock, and rise on the days you most want them.
Express variants that matter, with the guarantee column

| Express 5 / 7 / 8 more attractions per pass | ¥12,200 / ¥14,100 / ¥15,500 | Only if the variant lists it | DEPENDS |

| Express 4 ~Theater & Flying Dinosaur~ area guarantee + the Flying Dinosaur | ¥14,800 / $94 | Super Nintendo World, incl. Donkey Kong Country | DEPENDS |
| Express 5 ~Adventure Special~ area guarantee, no Mine Cart Madness | ¥18,900 / $120 | Super Nintendo World, incl. Donkey Kong Country | DEPENDS |

| Express ~Premium~ all Express-eligible attractions | ¥27,600 / $175 | Check the variant | SKIP |
Express 4 ~Trolley & Jurassic Park~ is the best one-day pick: from ¥14,800 it guarantees Super Nintendo World entry — Donkey Kong Country included — and covers Mine Cart Madness itself. Express 7 ~Trolley & Selection~ does the same with more rides. Premium, from ¥27,600, is diminishing returns for a one-day visitor. Variant names and contents change, so read the ride list before paying.
Buy it if — skip it if
The decisionBuy it if: you're visiting a weekend, public holiday, Golden Week (29 Apr–5 May), summer break (mid-July–August) or New Year (28 Dec–3 Jan) · you have one day only and want both Nintendo and Potter without gambling the morning · your kids cannot absorb a 200-minute queue · or you'd simply rather pay from ¥14,800 than race everyone else for a free timed ticket the moment you're through the gate.
Skip it if: you're visiting a quiet weekday in late January–early March, November or early December — waits collapse and the free timed tickets are realistic · you're a repeat visitor targeting two or three rides, where Single Rider does the work · or you're price-sensitive, because the math is brutal: a peak-date area-guarantee Express (from ¥14,800) plus a peak-date Studio Pass (¥11,900) is ¥26,700 (~$169) or more per person before you've bought a single frozen Butterbeer. For a family of four that's ¥106,800 before food.
The middle path most guides miss: Single Rider. Mario Kart, Mine Cart Madness and Forbidden Journey all run Single Rider lines, free, and trip reports suggest they often cut the wait sharply. It splits your group and it doesn't solve the SNW entry problem — but for solo travellers and couples who don't mind riding apart, it's the most underrated strategy in the park.
The free route vs the guarantee, costed
The mathsSame peak-date park day, two philosophies. The DIY route competes for free timed tickets in the app; the Express route buys certainty.
Full day, all lands — if you arrive 60–90 min early, register your ticket in the app beforehand, and get a timed ticket before they run out.
Express 4 ~Trolley & Jurassic Park~: guaranteed Super Nintendo World entry (Donkey Kong Country included) plus Express on Mine Cart Madness — check the variant's full ride list before paying.
Check Express datesVerdict. Quiet weekday: DIY wins, keep the ¥14,800. Peak date with Nintendo as the point of the trip: the guarantee wins — missing out on timed tickets means a lost morning and possibly no Mario at all.

Express Pass questions, answered straight
Straight answersDo I need an Express Pass for Super Nintendo World?
Not on quiet weekdays — the free timed tickets in the app are realistic then, and USJ says the area sometimes admits guests without one. On weekends, holidays and school breaks the free tickets are first come, first served once you're inside and go fast, and the only ways to have entry settled in advance are an Express variant with the area guarantee (from ¥14,800, Donkey Kong Country included) or a travel-agency package with an advance-booked area ticket.
Which USJ Express Pass is best?
For most one-day visitors, Express 4 ~Trolley & Jurassic Park~, from ¥14,800 ($94): it guarantees Super Nintendo World entry — Donkey Kong Country is inside the same area — and covers Mine Cart Madness. Express 7 ~Trolley & Selection~ (from ¥21,800) adds rides; Premium, from ¥27,600, nearly doubles the price for depth most one-day visitors never use. Read the variant's ride list before paying — names and contents change.
How much is the USJ Express Pass in 2026?
Official 'from' prices: Express 4 ¥6,800, Express 5 ¥12,200, Express 7 ¥14,100, Express 8 ¥15,500, Premium ¥27,600. Variants with the Super Nintendo World area guarantee currently start at ¥14,800. These are floors — Express prices vary by date and stock. The daily repricing USJ introduced on 1 September 2026 covers admission tickets, not Express.
Does the Express Pass include park admission?
No. It's an add-on on top of a Studio Pass — a peak-date area-guarantee Express plus peak-date admission starts around ¥26,700 (~$169) per person. Budget both from the start or the checkout will do it for you.
Is Single Rider free at USJ?
Yes. Mario Kart, Mine Cart Madness, Forbidden Journey and the Flying Dinosaur all run Single Rider lines, and trip reports suggest they often cut the wait sharply — though by how much varies by day. You ride apart from your group, and it does not get you into Super Nintendo World itself — entry still needs a timed ticket or Express guarantee.
When do Express Passes sell out?
USJ doesn't publish a sell-out pattern: Express goes on sale about two months out alongside admission, in limited quantities, and busy dates — weekends, Golden Week, mid-July–August, Halloween event days, New Year — are the ones to buy early. Quiet-season weekdays often have stock days before, but by then you probably don't need one. Admission has no gate sales either — USJ's ticket booths closed permanently on 6 May 2025.
