Super Nintendo World is worth the trip — and entry, not the rides, is the thing you have to plan for. The land (plus Donkey Kong Country inside it, same system) is rationed by free Area Timed Entry Tickets, issued first come, first served in the official USJ app once you're inside the park. Since 5 January 2026 the app is the only way to get them — the old Central Park kiosk route has ended. When the timed tickets run out, the app runs an Area Standby Entry lottery instead. The routes that settle entry before you arrive cost money: an Express Pass with the area guarantee (from ¥14,800) or a travel-agency package with an advance-booked area ticket. Register every ticket in your party in the app before you leave the hotel, carry your own data, and be at the gate early.
Three routes in — and what each really costs
The systemNobody explains this properly, so here it is: Super Nintendo World is not first-come at the land entrance. Entry is rationed by timed tickets, and you get in three ways.
Route one: free Area Timed Entry Tickets — app only, same day. They're issued through the official USJ app once you're inside the park, first come, first served, and one person can request them for everyone whose tickets are registered together. Register every ticket in your party in the app before you arrive — USJ itself says it makes things smoother, and fumbling QR codes at the gate is how mornings die. USJ publishes no release time; on busy dates the morning slots go fast, so request the moment you're through the gate. You can hold only one timed ticket a day, so take the best slot offered rather than gambling on a better one later.
Route two: Area Standby Entry — the lottery of last resort. When the timed tickets run out, the app switches to Area Standby Entry, a free lottery with no guarantee. The old Central Park kiosk route ended on 5 January 2026: timed and standby entry tickets are now app-only, so there is no physical fallback. On genuinely quiet days USJ sometimes lets guests into the area without any e-ticket.
Route three: pay for the guarantee — the only certain one. The early arrival, step by step

Install the USJ app, register, and add every ticket in your party to it. Confirm your eSIM has data. Look up tomorrow's opening time on the official park calendar — it changes by date, and everything below counts back from it.
Be at Universal City station
60–90 minutes before opening is the community standard, and more on peak days. The 12-minute, ¥200 hop from Osaka Station via Nishikujō is the easy part — leave Umeda with that margin built in.
Security, then the turnstiles
Bags through, party together, phones out. On peak days the gate plaza fills well before opening, and trip reports say the gates sometimes open ahead of the posted time — another reason to be early.
