Who should pick which
The verdict, by partyNintendo or Potter in the party → USJ, no debate. These IPs simply don't exist at TDR, and they're the two strongest theme-park lands in Japan. Do it properly: the timed-entry system decides your morning.
Toddlers and Disney-first kids → TDR. USJ's under-6 lineup thins out fast, while both Tokyo parks are built for that age band. If you're doing one Kansai park day with small kids anyway, read USJ with kids first — it works, but it takes more planning than Disney does.
Adults without kids, one Japan trip, never seen either → the honest answer is DisneySea if a Tokyo day exists in your itinerary, USJ if it doesn't. DisneySea is the singular park; USJ is the better collection of things you already love. Basing in Osaka? The 12-minute train beats the cross-country logistics — a TDR day from Osaka burns ¥28,000+ in shinkansen fares before admission.

Is DisneySea really worth flying to Tokyo for?
It's the one park on earth with no duplicate — harbour-built, adult-friendly, and Fantasy Springs (2024) added real capacity. If it's your kind of thing, it justifies the detour. But it doesn't cancel USJ: they're different products, and Nintendo exists only in Osaka.
