DisneySea is unique on earth: an adult-friendly, sake-serving, harbour-built park people fly in for by itself. Toddler coverage is far deeper than USJ's. Who should pick which
The verdict, by partyNintendo or Potter in the party → USJ, no debate. These IPs simply don't exist at TDR, and they're the two strongest theme-park lands in Japan. Do it properly: the timed-entry system decides your morning.
Toddlers and Disney-first kids → TDR. USJ's under-6 lineup thins out fast, while both Tokyo parks are built for that age band. If you're doing one Kansai park day with small kids anyway, read USJ with kids first — it works, but it takes more planning than Disney does.
Adults without kids, one Japan trip, never seen either → the honest answer is DisneySea if a Tokyo day exists in your itinerary, USJ if it doesn't. DisneySea is the singular park; USJ is the better collection of things you already love. Basing in Osaka? The 12-minute train beats the cross-country logistics — a TDR day from Osaka burns roughly ¥28,000 in shinkansen fares before admission.

For toddlers, parade lovers and operations connoisseurs, no — Tokyo Disney runs the best-polished parks on earth. Price is roughly a wash: both run date-variable adult admission, USJ's from ¥8,400 to about ¥11,900. USJ has had no gate sales since its booths closed on 6 May 2025, so buy before you go.
Is USJ's Harry Potter better than Orlando's?
The community consensus says yes for the land itself — the long Hogsmeade forest approach and terrain make it more convincing than Universal Orlando's version, and after dark the candle-lit castle seals it. Orlando still wins on total Potter volume with two connected lands.
Should I do USJ and Tokyo Disney on the same trip?
Only on a 10-day-plus trip with days to spare — each park eats a full day plus recovery, and the cities are about 2.5 hours and roughly ¥14,000 apart by shinkansen. On a standard first trip, pick the one matching your party and spend the saved day in Kyoto or Nara, 30–45 minutes from an Osaka base.
Is DisneySea really worth flying to Tokyo for?
It's the one park on earth with no duplicate — harbour-built, adult-friendly, and Fantasy Springs (2024) added real capacity. If it's your kind of thing, it justifies the detour. But it doesn't cancel USJ: they're different products, and in Japan, Nintendo exists only in Osaka.
Which is cheaper, USJ or Tokyo Disney?
