If crowds wear you down, stay in Honmachi: it's the dead centre of the Midōsuji line, five minutes from either downtown, and it empties out at night. This is Osaka's office district — which is exactly the trick. Business hotels here price for weekday suits, so weekend rates drop when the offices close; evenings are calm; and you're two stops from Namba's noise in one direction and three from Umeda's terminals in the other. Kitahama adds the pretty part: riverside cafés facing Nakanoshima's museums, and Yodoyabashi station — Keihan's terminus — putting Gion-Shijō and Fushimi Inari on one direct train, which makes this the best Kyoto-day-trip base in the city. The honest cost: nightlife is a train ride away, and after 21:00 the streets are yours alone.

Look at the Midōsuji line: Umeda, Yodoyabashi, Honmachi, Shinsaibashi, Namba. You are the middle stop — Namba's food in 5 minutes, Umeda's day-trip terminals in 3, and walking distance to Shinsaibashi's arcade when you want it. No tour groups, no touts, no queue for breakfast.
Then look at the rate card. The district's hotels exist for weekday business travel, so weekend nights routinely price below equivalent rooms in Namba — the reverse of every tourist district's curve. Around them: Utsubo Park's plane trees and coffee roasters to the west, the Semba wholesale blocks' lunch counters feeding office workers proper teishoku at ¥900–1,500, and streets that go pleasantly dead by 21:00. That last line is either the selling point or the warning — read it twice.

The Kitahama cardKitahama, the old securities district at Honmachi's northeast edge, is the neighbourhood's face: retro bank buildings, and riverside café terraces looking across the water at Nakanoshima — the museum island holding the Nakanoshima Museum of Art, the Science Museum and the 1918 Central Public Hall. It's the calmest good morning in central Osaka.
The tactical reason to sleep here: Yodoyabashi, one stop west, is the Keihan terminus.
