DEPENDS The higher deck with the lesser atmosphere — right answer for rain, height, or a Tennoji day.

Harukas 300 is Osaka's highest view and its second-most interesting one. First, the correction most guides still get wrong: Abeno Harukas is no longer Japan's tallest building — Tokyo's Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower took that title at about 325–330 m in 2023. What remains is a genuinely huge, fully enclosed 300 m deck (¥2,200 at the counter, ¥1,980 online) directly above Tennoji Station. The height is real; the experience is an airport concourse with a view. Umeda Sky's open-air roof at 173 m beats it on atmosphere — choose Harukas for rain, for maximum altitude, or because you're already in Tennoji.

No longer Japan's tallest — and why that matters less than guides think

The correction first

Half the copy on the internet still sells Harukas on a superlative it lost in 2023.

Abeno Harukas topped out at 300 m in 2012 and spent a decade as Japan's tallest building. Then Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower was completed in Tokyo in 2023 at about 325–330 m, and Tokyo's Torch Tower (about 385 m, due in 2028) will push Harukas to third. It is still Osaka's tallest by a wide margin — but if a page you're reading calls it Japan's tallest, that page hasn't been updated in three years, and you should trust its prices accordingly.

The deck itself, Harukas 300, spans floors 58–60: a triple-height glass atrium, an outdoor-ish courtyard under open sky (but behind full-height glass walls), and a 360° corridor with Osaka flattening into haze toward Awaji Island on clear days. ¥2,200 at the counter, or ¥1,980 if you buy online by the day before — and standard tickets carry no re-entry, so don't go up before deciding about dinner. Figure 60–90 minutes.

The location is the quiet strength: the tower sits directly on top of Tennoji / Ōsaka-Abenobashi Station — Midōsuji line, JR Loop, and the Haruka airport express all underneath. It slots into a Tennoji day with Shinsekai and Shitennōji ten minutes' walk away, and the Osaka Marriott Miyako occupies the tower's top hotel floors if you want the view with breakfast. Abeno Harukas questions people actually search

Straight answers
Is Abeno Harukas still the tallest building in Japan?

No — Azabudai Hills Mori JP Tower in Tokyo (about 325–330 m) overtook it in 2023, and Tokyo's Torch Tower (about 385 m, due in 2028) will demote it again. Harukas (300 m) remains the tallest building in Osaka and all of western Japan.

Is Harukas 300 worth ¥2,200?

If you want maximum height, a rainy-day view, or you're already in Tennoji — yes, and booking online by the day before brings it down to ¥1,980. If you're choosing one paid Osaka observatory for the experience itself, Umeda Sky's open-air 173 m roof at ¥2,000 is the better buy. Nearly the same price, very different feel.

How do I get to Harukas 300?

You don't travel to it — it sits directly above Tennoji Station (Midōsuji line, JR Loop) and Kintetsu Ōsaka-Abenobashi. Follow the signs inside the station to the 16th-floor ticket garden, then the dedicated elevator to floor 60.

What time is best for Harukas 300?

Clear mornings are emptiest; the hour before sunset is busiest. After dark the city lights are strong but you'll fight glass reflections in photos — the deck is fully enclosed. There's no re-entry.

Can you see Kyoto from Harukas 300?

On a genuinely clear day you can see roughly 50 km — Awaji Island, Kansai Airport's causeway and the Ikoma range, with Kyoto's basin visible as haze to the northeast. Winter mornings give the best visibility of the year.

Is there a cheaper view than Harukas in Osaka?

Several. HEP Five's ferris wheel and the Tempozan wheel are ¥1,000 each (both free with the Osaka Amazing Pass), the Museum of History's 10th floor is ¥600 with the best castle view in town — and Grand Green Osaka's rooftop lawns are free. Harukas sells altitude, not value.
